Our biggest kitchen design challenge is fitting everything into a small condo-sized kitchen while still leaving sufficient countertop space to assemble a dinner. But we manage. In fact, a couple of times, we’ve hosted full fledged holiday dinner parties for up to 35 people in our little 900-square-foot condo!! And nobody spilled anything! 😉

This summer I’m remodeling my family home..parents 60s ranch.
It’s small more on the lines of a cottage or bungalow..but charming on a lake with 10 aces.
The kitchen is so small..gallery style.
I have two challenges..to open up and add on or reconfigure.
Which leads to design challenge number two. Piping..I would love to have the water pipes moves to the back wall overlooking the lake. But, might be to costly.
    Thanks so much,

My biggest kitchen design challenge is where to store all the gadgets and tools while having not so much counter space. If I stuff them in a drawer or cabinet, I’m going to forget about them or think they are too much of a pain to get out. I have the big stand mixer, the Blendtec, the Cusinart, the knife block, the caddy to keep tools by the stove, the coffeemaker, the coffee canister, etc.

I also only have three outlets which are in odd places, and only one of them is three-prong (which is not near where there’s any space for the fridge). It can make things a definite challenge! Our biggest problem, I think, is that the person who designed our kitchen divided the room with a ‘peninsula’ that separates the kitchen area from what they must have deemed a dining area. But the cooking area is way to small with limited cabinet space & really no free space for a pantry or shelf to create more storage. The dining area is too big! If I had my way, that peninsula would go & I’d have a bigger kitchen area.

Our biggest challenge is that our kitchen is small, so putting up groceries is a total hassle. We have no counter room, and what room we do have is used up by small appliances, so grocery bags go everywhere… floor, sink, stove,, where ever we can put them… The worse part is when you get ready to actually unbag them and put them up!! UGH!! I so wish we had a larger kitchen!!! 🙁

Our biggest challenge is making a kitchen work within the layout of a 100 year old house. We try to be respectful of the kitchen’s quirks (oddly sized cabinets, slanted floor, strangely placed pipes/wiring) and history while still making a useful and up-to-date kitchen. It’s a work in progress, but it’s still my favorite room in the house!

The most difficult design challenge I have in my kitchen is putting in dual taps on the sink. It is so small and it only allows room for a mixer, the one we currently have is leaking and its the third one now in a space of five years that needs replacing.
