Thrifty Ideas to Spice up Your Patio

by Whitney Spinks,  Florida Flippers on HGTV

Now that warmer weather is officially upon us, who doesn’t love to get outside and soak up some rays?!  Or better yet, hang out on your patio for dinner and drinks!

Speaking of patios, I’ve gathered up my favorite DIY projects to add some flair and functionality to your outdoor space this season!

The Beautiful Yet Functional Centerpiece

When I’m designing any space, marrying beauty with functionality is always the top priority.  And of course, the budget. ☺ This centerpiece is the perfect blend.  Succulents are easy to maintain and small citronella candles are the perfect bug deterrent and provide ambiance, both of which are always a good thing on summer evenings. If you’ve got an old box laying around, repurpose it and have some fun creating an outdoor centerpiece.  You could use rocks, sand, marbles…the list goes on!

The Multi-Tasking Table

How cute is this outdoor dining table?  What I love about this is that it’s so easy to create.  The bucket is the perfect place to store pillows or citronella candles, and you could easily find an old table at thrift stores, yard sales, or Craigslist and simply remove the base and voila!  You’re done!  The key here is that it sits low to allow all your guests to chat comfortably!

The ‘Repurposed’ Light

In need of some new walkway lighting?  You will never believe what this light is made of!  PVC pipe, a tuna can, a drinking glass, and a Dollar Tree candle.  This is so clever, and again, anyone can do this!  I love that chic patio lighting doesn’t have to cost a fortune, and making it yourself will bring that much more enjoyment to your time outdoors.

The Simple Swing

A trip to Lowe’s and 2 supplies later (rope and a circular piece of wood), this adorable swing could be hanging in your patio, or in your front yard for that matter.  Not only does a swing add charm to the exterior of your home, the kiddos will be occupied for hours!

The Poppin’ Pallet Art

Creating your own art is doesn’t have to remain indoors!  We used a leftover pallet and some leftover paint to create a bright focal point in this patio. You can’t beat easy and FREE!  You can get as creative as you choose.  Just make sure you spray your art with some polyurethane when you’re finished to protect it from the elements!

Now go put your creative juices to work and have some fun sprucing up your patio!  Happy Summer, friends!
