Lisa LaPorta Q&A: Improving A Home’s Value

Pfister is pleased to be working with interior designer and HGTV host Lisa LaPorta. In addition to LaPorta’s series of design inspiration videos, for the last few weeks we’ve been focused on questions Pfister customers have posed to LaPorta along with her response. If you have your own question for LaPorta, please leave it in the comments and it will be considered for a future post.

This week LaPorta is covering low budget home projects — describing what to replace and redesign. By tackling the right projects, homeowners can improve their home look, feel and value.

Q: My husband and I are looking to sell our house in the next 12-18 months. What are some low-budget projects we can do to improve the look, feel and value of our home?

Lisa: My number one recommendation is to update your appliances. No matter how old your kitchen is, new appliances will help with the perceived value of your home. If your appliances are new or replacing them isn’t in your budget, there are less expensive projects to tackle that will help increase the value and/or the perceived value of your home.

  • In the kitchen, replacing countertops and flooring, as well as painting or staining kitchen cabinets are relatively inexpensive fixes.
  • In both the kitchen and bathrooms, new sink faucets will add style and make the room feel completely new, without breaking the bank.
  • Updating light fixtures, refreshing paint and changing window treatments are also easy upgrades that will benefit your home’s perceived value.

Above all else, remember that when you are selling your home you should be proud of your personal taste, but it may not suit everyone, so avoid or tone down bold statement pieces and colors.

A big thank you to Lisa for those tips to get you on track to sell your home. We would love to hear from you. Please leave a comment with any problems you’re having with your home design and we’ll direct them to Lisa LaPorta for consideration in a future blog post.
