Headshot

How did you get your start as a blogger?
I started blogging about 3 1/2 years ago.  We had moved into our new home about a year prior, and 4 months after moving in my husband was laid off from his job.  It became my mission to make our new house a beautiful, comfortable home.  With very little money, this meant repurposing garage sale and thrift store items, along with shopping our home.  Family and friends encouraged me to start blogging to share with others how I was creating our happy hearth on a very tight budget.

What do you love about DIY projects?
I love DIY projects because it’s always exciting to see the final results of what you’ve created with your own hands and knowing how much money you saved doing it yourself!

If you could only give one piece of advice when it comes to home projects (in 140 characters or less), what would it be?
Go for it!  A lot of us let fear paralyze us from trying something new.  Start small, but do it & your confidence will grow as you go.

What’s your favorite home decor style?
That’s a tough one, but I’d say the one I’m most comfortable in would be a beachy, traditional style.

What DIY project has been your favorite to date, and why?
That’s a tough one.  I think it has to be our beadboard wallpapered wall in our family room.  I love it because beadboard wallpaper is AMAZING!  I love how easy it is to use and what a HUGE difference it makes in a room.  I’m going to add some beadboard wallpaper to our kitchen island soon.

What upcoming projects are you working on?
This summer I’ve got two big projects on my list: Painting the kitchen cabinets, and making over our master bedroom.  I’ve been putting off painting the kitchen cabinets, but I’m going to take the plunge this summer!

Thanks to Maryann for sharing her love of crafting and DIY with us. We can’t wait to see the cabinet makeover! You can follow Domestically-Speaking on Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter.

I had never heard of bead board wallpaper until this very moment. I just rushed over to your blog, searched it out and looked at your marvelous room. Now I have to do that and it looks totally doable. Thank you so much!

I love how much things can change with paint. I’m all for taking a risk also. What’s the worse thing that can happen? Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
