Pfister’s Faucet Design Challenge was created to showcase Pfister’s custom offering to the hospitality/trade market. Launched at HP Expo in Las Vegas in May 2014, the national contest called for aspiring designers to submit their own unique faucet concept for a chance at a grand prize of cash and a day with the Industrial design team at Pfister’s Lake Forest headquarters to bring their winning concept to design prototype.
Students, industrial designers, and artists from 26 states submitted their designs for a chance to be showcased on Pfister’s Facebook page as Top 10 Semi-finalists. A cash sweepstakes encouraged Pfister’s Facebook community to vote for their favorite from the ten semi-finalists selected by an internal Pfister team. Channing Shattuck, an industrial design student a CSU Long Beach, was selected as Pfister’s 2014 Faucet Design Challenge winner for his “Deep Sea” faucet design.
“Deep Sea” by Channing Shattuck
This faucet was inspired by the graceful gestures of deep sea life, deriving its long, sweeping curves from the legendary Sea Serpent. The twisting fin acts as the handle. A very luxurious piece for a one-of-a-kind washbasin.
Channing’s site visit to Pfister on September 18th was exciting and educational for him and the Pfister team. Escorted to Lake Forest by limousine, Channing spent the day touring Pfister’s facilities, workshopping with industry leaders and working with our industrial design team on his “Deep Sea” design to ready it for production into a 3D model. Channing reported having a great time on his tour and is looking forward to starting his career as a professional industrial designer.
“Keep your design very unique. Don’t be afraid to kind of really get out there, but also keep in mind that it does have to fit a theme or some kind of emotion. Do something that will surprise people.”
